The Rock Hotel

Chapter One

Angy and Robert decided to buy a hotel in New Hampshire. Angy found a small hotel in Salem New Hampshire and is taking Robert up there to see it.

They are the current owners of the Torch Light Club in the financial district of Boston. That’s the night club with the detective agency attached.  Angy is the young guy from the north shore who Robert brought in to manage the place and Angy took over.

Angy is usually in the papers for solving a crime or getting shot protecting someone.  Patrons of the club know him as the force behind the new manager Joe Russo. One of the three of them is always on hand.  Angy is the former owner of the Summer Street Sub Shop in Spring Hill Massachusetts and no stranger to restaurants.  After running the Torch Light for several years Robert Cimino the then sole owner made Angy a full partner and part owner of the night club.

Robert is a local entrepreneur who distributes meat and prepared foods to restaurants and grocery stores as far away as New Hampshire and all along the Eastern coastline of Massachusetts.  Robert has had a long and successful career as a major food distributor.  Robert is active in local business organizations and a member of the Rotary Club.

The hotel they’re looking at is the Ciano’s Rockingham Hotel in Salem New Hampshire

It has thirty one rooms and eleven suites (that’s a room with its own bathroom and bedroom.). It has a flower shop, gadget shop, restaurant and barber shop. All but the restaurant are leased to outsiders.  By law the restaurant must be owned and run by the proprietors of the hotel.

Inside the hotel, there are two separate restaurants with their own kitchens.  One is located at the front of the hotel facing Main Street.  The other is across the lobby and in the back of the hotel.  The front restaurant is open three hundred and sixty five days a year, as they have year round guests living in the hotel.  The back restaurant is open for special events and occasions.

There is also a bar with thirty seats and an attached lounge with one hundred and twenty seats and forty tables, a hotel room rental lobby and a hotel office.  The lobby has several stuffed chairs and a large couch.   The lobby of the hotel is the “working office” of the local, unofficial, OTB, (bookie)

The hotel is located in Salem New Hampshire, adjacent to the Rockingham Race track. The physical location is at a corner where Main and Shed row Court intersect. This spot is a little rise in the topography of the area, just above the intersection of main street and Route 28, the primary route from Boston to Manchester N.H. With Salem somewhere in the middle of that route where all types of visitors appear for a day or a week depending on their financial situation and future prospects.

During the racing season the trackers can rent rooms for a reasonable rate and be only minutes from their work.  The year round customers are Salemites and the Local Gypsy clans.   While racing is going on there is a shaky truce in the hotel bar because the locals don’t always agree with the trackers and nobody agrees with the Gypsies. Except, Angy,  His good friend is George Wurll, who is the official “King of the Gypsies” locally.   George has made the hotel bar his unofficial office and he spends most of his days here making decisions and distributing planning for his clan.

Usually, during racing days…
